Pastoral Care Officer

Gugu Mthethwa – Pastoral Care Officer

Gugu Mthethwa is a Pastoral Care Officer. Her role within Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is to provide pastoral support to our International Nurses and Healthcare Support Workers (IR). This role will be replicated for Adult Social Care and Gugu will be working very closely with GCPA to ensure that the transition into the UK is as smooth as possible, for our international recruits.

The support covers a broad range of responsibilities in both the short and long term:

  • Introduction and integration with managers and ensuring that any additional training needs are met.
  • Providing assistance to international recruits who are adapting to life in the UK, including understanding their payslip and how to access the NHS for medical care, setting up bank accounts, guidance on public transport and arranging mobile sim cards.

Gugu’s role means she is the first number on the HCSW and INT Nurses speed dial and can be contacted out of hours if necessary. The goal is to ensure the process of starting a life and a job in a new country is made as streamlined as possible so that our new colleagues can gain a fulfilling career and home life, whilst providing a real benefit to the organisation.

If you have internationally recruited members of staff, working in Adult Social care, who could really benefit from talking to Gugu, please contact magugu.mthethwa@ghc.nhs.uk.
